Privacy Policy – Palmate WhatsApp Export Tool

Palmate WhatsApp Export Tool ("the extension") is a Chrome extension published by Palmate. It helps Palmate customers migrate from the WhatsApp app to the WhatsApp Business API by exporting their own WhatsApp Web chats and contacts to a JSON file on their own computer.

What data the extension accesses

Only when you click an export button, and only on https://web.whatsapp.com, the extension reads from the page:

  • Chat names and contact/group identifiers, including phone numbers where available
  • Message content: sender, date, time, message type, text and quoted (replied-to) messages

Media files (images, audio, video, documents) are not downloaded; only their type is recorded.

How the data is used

The data is used for a single purpose: creating a JSON export file that is saved to your computer's Downloads folder. What you do with that file, for example importing it into your Palmate account, is your decision.

What we do not do

  • The extension makes no network requests. No data is sent to Palmate or to any third party.
  • No data is stored by the extension after the export finishes, apart from your language preference.
  • No analytics, tracking, cookies or advertising.
  • We do not sell, transfer or use the data for any purpose other than the export described above.

Permissions

  • Host access to web.whatsapp.com: to read the chats you choose to export.
  • debugger: used only to send mouse clicks, scroll-wheel and Escape key input to the WhatsApp Web tab so that each chat opens and older messages load during "Export all chats". It is not used to read, record or transmit page data. Chrome shows a banner while it is active; it is released when the export ends.
  • downloads: to save the JSON file to your computer.

Your control

You can stop an export at any time, delete exported files from your computer, and remove the extension from Chrome at any time.
