WhatsApp Business API pricing: how to calculate your costs

WhatsApp2 min readJuly 4, 2026

There is no single fixed price for every WhatsApp Business API message. Meta charges depend on message category, recipient market and applicable pricing conditions, while platform or provider fees may be additional. Build a budget by separating delivered chargeable messages, free-message conditions and service fees. Do not use outdated conversation-based tables as the current model.

What does Meta charge for?

The current model prices delivered messages according to category and recipient market. Marketing, utility and authentication messages serve different purposes. Use Meta’s official pricing for current rates. Check currency, volume conditions and applicable exceptions before quoting a fixed country rate.

What changes inside the customer-service window?

Service replies are free within the 24-hour customer-service window opened by a user message. Eligible utility messages within that window also have free conditions. This does not make every marketing message free. The actual purpose and category of the message matter.

Add platform and provider fees

The Meta bill may be only part of the budget. Providers, team interfaces, automation, integrations and support can carry separate charges. Ask for written confirmation of what a quote includes. When considering Palmate packages, assess platform pricing separately from Meta fees.

Build your own budget

  1. Separate recipients by country or market.
  2. Categorise messages by their actual purpose.
  3. Calculate delivered chargeable volume using applicable rates.
  4. Add provider, platform and operational costs.
  5. Compare the invoice with the estimate and investigate differences.

Do not confuse send attempts with delivered messages.

Common budgeting mistakes

Using old conversation-based tables, pricing every country alike and treating promotions as utility messages can distort a budget. Rates can change, so recheck the price list before a large send. Reduce unnecessary repetition rather than assuming more messages improve results.
